storage crate plaque

Morning all

Following up from yesterdays post on my new crate storage, not every one is lucky enough to own a fancy smancy silhouette machine that can cut out stencils for you in no time flat. 

Don’t get me wrong, I would loooove to own one.

But for now though, it’s the old fashion way of doing things.

So onto making the plaque.

Using a scrap piece of ply, I traced around a plate that was the size that I was after.

Measured the centre and marked where the screw holes would go to attach it to the crate.

Cut the shape out with a jig saw and sanded the edges..

I then printed up on the computer the words  in the size that I wanted.

(This is where a silhouette machine would come in very handy)

Before you cut anything out,  turn the paper that you have just printed on over and go over the back of the letters in a crayon.  Chalk works well too.

Cut out your letters and arrange them on the plaque, fixing them with a little  tape to stop them from moving.

Once you are happy with the placement, take a pen and trace over the letters.

The letter should trace onto the ply wood.

I then just used a sharpie to outline and to colour in the text.

You can use a paint pen or fine paint brush whatever you have.

Using my favourite stain that I used here,  I just stained straight over the top.

Attached the plaque and Bob’s your uncle!!!!

Crate storage

Good morning all.

Hope you are all enjoying your pancakes today for Shrove Tuesday.

I have another recycle project for you today.

A friend of ours gave us an old crate which looked like this.

Yes, it was in need of a little love and attention.

I thought about what to do with it for a while and then it came to me  that it would make great storage for the lounge room to hold extra blankets and cushions.

It got a good sanding to take all the rough patches off. 

There were also some nails poking out here and there so Ewan took the grinder to them.

It needed a piece of board put across the bottom as I thought the gap was too big and to also give it a more  finished off look.

Next,  time to stain it all.

I wanted to be able to move the storage crate around easily, so we found some old castors that used to belong to my Dad.

They were a perfect fit.

I wanted a plaque on the front of it so I made a simple one using our initials TEEK and the year that our little family was complete.

There you have it,  an old crate that was going to be broken down and thrown away, recycled  into a storage crate.

Hello all!!! 

Finally a blog post I hear you all say!!!

This is a project I did a while back and I am still loving how it turned out.

First I started with the purchase of the bed ends form the op shop for $14.

We used the head part (the bigger one) for this project.

The inside piece of the headboard is recessed which means we can place a piece of glass into it with no effort.

We  marked and cut off the legs

Took the hammer to the capping on the top

and gave it a quick sand.

The back of the headboard was now going to be where I stick the photos as it is the smoothest surface.

I then stained the whole thing with my new favourite colour.

Then it was just a matter of measuring the headboard and working out the size and amount of photos I would need.

I wanted all the photos square so I went with 4x4 inches and I need 36 photos in total giving me 4 rows of 8.

I just had them printed at Harvey Norman and the girls there are very helpful and showed me how to print the 4x4 size on normal 6x4 prints as this is the cheapest option.

 I cut all the photos down and used double sided tape to stick them down with.

I had a piece of 4mm glass cut to fit, placed it slowly and carefully on top of the photos.

To hold the glass in we just used some brass brackets that Ewan cut down to fit.

This baby is quite heavy so some heavy duty wall hanging hooks were needed.

Once hung, stand back and admire.

An unique photo display that I can change up whenever I like.

I am thinking this is great for a theme like

Photos of the person who’s birthday it is that month.

Past Christmas Photos

Family holiday.

I am sure the list is endless.

Again I was at one of my favourite little op shops near my mums house and found the perfect little side table for our sofa.

 

I will be painting it of course!

DIY tripod lamp

We had this old tripod that couldn’t be used as it was missing a vital part.

I had thrown it in the bin, but it was bothering me that I had just thrown it away.

There must be a use for it!!!!!!!

So off to the bin I went and reclaimed it.

We also had an old Barbie lamp that didn’t sell at our garage sale, so Ewan smashed  it  open and got the lamp fixture out of it.

We  pulled the whole top piece of the tripod apart so as Ewan could drill down through the top to place the lamp fixture into it.

Once we finally had the whole thing straight, we put the tripod back together and placed a new shade on it.

Our front door handle was looking a little worse for wear to say the least.

 

So we dismantled  it all and cleaned the parts.

Using one of my favourite spray paints that I also used on this project,

A small tip: I used an old key and placed it in the locks when I was spraying so as not to get paint inside the lock

 

 I sprayed all the pieces and reassembled them.

Now the door is looking much more inviting.
