laundry makeover

:laundry makeover:

A few weeks ago we tackled the laundry.
Here is the before.....

It doesn't normally look this bad.  I had started to unpack cabinets.
This room needed to be lightened up and to do that I needed to take out the over head cabinets.

(sorry no pics of this bit just use your imagination)

I really wanted to add a counter top above the dryer and washer so it would be a much more user friendly space.
We got a dressed piece of pine panel and Ewan used the router on the front and sides to take the square look of it

I then painted it with 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of oil based paint.

The baskets on the top are for the girls clothes that have been ironed or folded.  It's their job to put away their clothes each day.

Before we put the counter top on, we had to lift the dryer so it was the same height as the washer.

Then we just screwed a piece of board onto the front that I pre painted

The free standing cupboard we left exactly where it was as it's a great spot for hiding the dirty laundry basket and cleaning products.

On top of the cabinet I put a white wicker laundry basket again as a hiding place for the ironing.

To put my wet washing in to take out to hang on the line, I use one of these pop up baskets.
I use one in the caravan all the time and thought it was the perfect solution as I can hide that too :-)

You can buy them from Coles for $8

The fly screen on the window was sprayed the same way as we here

A shelf was also added for extra storage.

I love how this space has turned out on next to no budget.
